Why the MICR Drum Matters on Your First Setup

This printer uses a separate imaging drum. A new drum comes with regular toner in the drum system. For a MICR conversion, MICR Toner Mart removes that regular toner and replaces it with MICR toner before shipment.

This extra preparation matters because regular toner left in the drum can mix with MICR toner during the first prints. That dilution can reduce the magnetic toner concentration and lead to less consistent MICR performance. Starting with a properly prepared MICR drum gives the printer a cleaner MICR-only starting point and improves reliability and repeatability.

Why the Toner + Drum option costs more: you are receiving both the MICR toner cartridge and a new drum that has been specially converted and prepared for MICR use. It is not simply an ordinary new drum added to the order.

Choose your purchase option

  • Toner + Drum (first-time setup) — Recommended when converting this printer to MICR for the first time. It provides the cleanest starting point by minimizing regular-toner carryover.
  • Toner only (reorder) — Once your printer is already running with the prepared MICR drum, you normally need only the toner on future orders. The MICR imaging drum lasts about 150,000 pages — roughly 4 toner cartridges at this cartridge's 36,000-page yield.
